Baorque Guitar

The baroque guitar established itself throughout the 17th century as a central instrument in French musical practice, associated both with accompaniment and solo repertoire, within an aesthetic context marked by formal clarity, dance, and courtly musical rhetoric.

The model presented here is inspired by the constructive tradition of the Voboam family, active in Paris during the second half of the 17th century, whose instruments became a reference point for the consolidation of the French baroque guitar.

Characterized by its organization in five courses, the use of mixed stringing, and refined constructive solutions—visible in body proportions, soundboard design, and ornamentation—this tradition distinguishes itself from contemporary Iberian and Italian practices.

The instrument constructed results from a comparative analysis of different plans and historical examples attributed to the Voboam family, seeking to identify constructive constants and recurring proportions that characterize the French baroque guitar model.
